UNAP, AIESEC Hold IYD 2007

Last August 10 – 12, 2007, the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP), in cooperation with other U.N. agencies and AIESEC Philippines, held the 8th International Youth Day (IYD) Celebration. Themed “YMPACT! 2007,” the event included delegates from all over the Philippines and aimed to update youth leaders on current issues and concerns, especially with regard to the U.N. Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

The celebration began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument in Manila, after which a welcome ceremony was done by Hon. Vice Mayor Francisco Domagoso at the Manila City Hall. A series of conferences and seminars then followed at the De La Salle University – Manila, as well as community immersion programs at the Payatas Development Site and La Mesa Nature Reserve. A cultural night at the historic “Secret Garden” at San Agustin Church in Intramuros was also held. Capping off the celebration was a plenary session and ideation briefing among the youth delegates where plans for the accomplishment of the Millennium Development Goals were discussed.

The IYD celebration was endorsed by the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the National Youth Commission (NYC).
