MTV Music Summit 2006 Held

Last December 5, Music Television (MTV) Philippines along with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) celebrated the 4th annual MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS at the Bonifacio Global City Open Field.

This year's summit featured the theme "It's time to wear red for HIV/AIDS awareness," which resulted in a sea of people wearing red on the day of the summit. The theme represents a movement urging the country to take a more aggressive and personal stand against the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Among the dozens of artists and bands present were 6cyclemind, Up Dharma Down, Imago, Orange and Lemons, Barbie Almalbis, Jay-R, Cueshe, Hale, Mojofly, Itchyworms, Sugarfree, Sponge Cola, Kamikazee, Urbandub and more. Also giving performances were MiG Ayesa, of Rockstar INXS fame, and UNICEF goodwill ambassador and Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano.

The summit's theme song, "Future," was performed by Urbandub and Dicta License, two of the most popular bands in the industry today. Various sponsors, presenters and non-governmental organizations place up booths at the venue with each one having its own HIV/AIDS awareness program. Among them was Advocates for Youth Philippines, which gave away free pins with different HIV/AIDS related messages printed on them. With the thousands of youth who filled the audience, the summit's objective of spreading HIV/AIDS information and knowledge was definitely achieved.
