Plato Project

Plato Project inspires Young Leaders

Advocates for Youth recently launched The Plato Project at the Asian Institute of Management, Makati in collaboration with The Nous Group – an Australian based leadership and people development consulting firm. 30 top-notch college/university students from various schools in Metro Manila joined this leadership workshop which opened the minds of future youth leaders on how they can do more for the country and influence others to take lead roles in their communities.

Like Plato, he inspired the youth of his time by raising profound questions about his society and sought answers.  Cyndy Tan-Jarabata, A4Y President and Founder, believes that our youth can, by honing their leadership skills, serve as mentors to other young people and become catalysts for positive change in our country, and act as role models on empowering the youth on their reproductive health rights and responsibility.

Schools and universities like Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle Taft, Mapua Intramuros, UST, UP Diliman, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig , St. Scholastica Manila, San Beda College Alabang and University of Makati responded to this opportunity and recommended youth leaders to this program.

Nous Group principals Julia Cummins and Nicola Rothman, who flew from Sydney for the workshop, discussed the essence of leadership and how it can apply in different areas and roles of life through group activities, games and discussions. Dr. Federico Macaranas, Executive Director of the AIM Policy Center, spoke on “Servant-Leadership” and defined the meaning and responsibilities of leadership. While Dr. GJ Templonuevo, UNFPA’s Programme Officer talked about UNFPA’s goals for the education and empowerment of women, as well as its fight against AIDS, STIs/STDs and the teen pregnancy problems that beset the Filipino youth.  Other facilitators include Sally Pedersen of ADB, Bernard Unkles of the Australian Embassy and Elle Tan, a professional life coach.

Plato Project was supported by The Nous Group Australia, United Nations Population Fund, Asian Institute of Management Policy Center and UCC Park Café.  For details please contact A4Y at (632)9167379 or (632)9167220, email at info@youthadvocates.net.
