Popular Youth Hangout and Website

The countdown to the magical day of Christmas has begun, and “’tis the season” once more to be jolly and happy. Of course, this also means one other thing for the students: Christmas break! What to do then? Check out our featured youth hangout and website and see if it cures your boredom.

Greenbelt 3

If Manila has Malate, and Quezon has Libis, Makati has Ayala Center. And one of the hottest spots in Ayala? That’s right! Greenbelt 3, also known as GB3. Considered as one of the hubs for youth activity, this particular wing of the Greenbelt complex has some of the coziest (albeit expensive) restaurants, as well as nicest (for lack of a better word) movie cinemas. Indeed, if you’re looking to take a girl out on a date (and your date happens to be the high end maintenance type), you certainly can’t go wrong with Greenbelt 3. If the restaurants there aren’t enough, there’s always Greenbelt 2 next door, with even more expensive restaurants. What else to do in GB3 other than movies and food? Timezone! And if you’re really just in the mood to chill, GB3 also plays host to several bars that cater to just that whim.

Just a word of caution: While Greenbelt 3 offers the best in first-class food and entertainment in Makati, be prepared to spend a sizable amount. Some fancy restaurants can charge as high as 500-600 pesos for a plate of spaghetti (good enough for about two people, or one very hungry person). There are also moderately priced stores, but if you’re on a date, it’s always better to play safe and have some extra moolah. “Play safe” amount for a movie and dinner date: 1500 pesos.

Twitter

If you haven’t heard about Twitter, you’re probably out of the loop when it comes to the latest internet news. Twitter is an online service that acts as an alternative to blogging; instead of posting long and detail-ridden entries, you can just type in a sentence or two (or even a single word for that matter), and post it easy as pie. It’s like text messaging online, except that it’s free and much prettier. Oh, and if you have a lot of friends on your Twitter network, your message gets broadcast to a whole LOT of people very quickly and conveniently. One nice thing about Twitter is that it allows you to post your entries online, or if you’re a power user, by downloading a special program into your PC. Overall, Twitter is another creative Web 2.0 application that lets people express themselves…one twit at a time. Check it out at www.twitter.com.
