Could you withstand a one night stand?

Sorry for the author’s unethical bias, but I am not for ONE NIGHT STANDS. I just couldn’t stand the thought, and we at Club K do not encourage it either! However, before we dish out why we strongly unite against it, let us first delve into the minds of the people who are opening more than their minds about this issue…

“One Night Stands are fun and exciting. We only have one short life, so why not enjoy it to the fullness? Let us not be hypocritical, we need excitement once in a while, boredom can destroy relationships; who knows you might even find your partner there.” –Bel, 22

“It is an expression of freedom and sexuality! It allows you to explore new things and get into an adventure that you’ll surely enjoy! It’s fun, wild and crazy! It really tames the animal in us!!!” – Mike S., 27

“One night stand? It’s like a roller coaster ride; eh… it’s something you’ve been missing [kasi] if you’ve never tried it! I’m not saying do it all the time, just do it with someone you’re comfortable with, just be safe but do not deny yourself the excitement.” – Sharleen, 19

Those insights must have elicited mixed responses from you guys, however, since we are all entitled to our own opinions, let us respect the thoughts of others, while we dish out our own insights why we are not up for it:

The risk may not be worth it. True, it is a wild, exciting and unforgettable experience. However is that one night of fearless fun worth if one gets something from it- such as STD, or even a baby? Whenever we do something, let us consider the consequences of our actions, we might regret it all out lives, or maybe it wouldn’t even let us live a long life.

We are not in control. Even if adolescents would say that they are indeed in control because they are free to decide for themselves, actually, we are not in control because we are simply letting other people exploit or take advantage of us! Also, sex though physical involves a lot of emotions; what if we fall for the person who wouldn’t love us back? Then we’d suffer not just physical, but also emotional and psychological setbacks.

Danger is spelled everywhere. Now, let us venture into the psycho-social aspects of things. A lot of girls are scandalized and their reputation tarnished because some guys would record the deed, and even blackmail them; and so the hapless victim would forever be under his beck and call. That is just some of the documented atrocities that might result from it.

And so, you’ve read the “why you should” and the “why you should not.” It is merely up to you to make the sound decisions for yourself. On a closing note, it is always better to develop intimacy with someone you know so well, with someone you love and trust; what good is excitement when it leaves you at the losing end?
